Day-by-Day Itinerary
From 8:45–9:00 a.m. we pick you up from your hotel (provided it is near the historic centre of Puno), the bus station or the Plaza de Armas, and transfer you to the port of Puno, where we board a motor boat out to the fascinating Uros floating islands. It is said that the Uros have inhabited these islands on the lake for hundreds of years. They learned to harvest the abundant totora reed and bind it together to form small floating platforms; these ancient people, known as the children of Mama Cocha (Mother Lake), still maintain their islands today by adding new layers of totora.
During our visit we explore the island and its typical reed houses and craft stalls, and you can even take a ride on one of the traditional totora boats for an additional cost. Afterwards we return to Puno.
We recommend bringing: hats or caps, sunscreen, water and snacks, warm clothing throughout the trip (we visit high Andean areas) and cash for additional expenses.
