Sillar Route + Colca Full Day

During this time slot we carry out the pick-ups from the Plaza de Armas of Arequipa.

We begin our tour with a visit to the Volcanoes Viewpoint, where we can admire the famous Misti, Chachani and Pichupichu, after which we head towards the Sillar Route, a tourist trip full of history and living culture, where you visit quarries and areas where sillar originated. The first point where we will stop will be the Añashuayco Quarry; which we will reach in about 45 minutes. It is currently being worked; the quarrymen carry out their labours from very early on; there you will be able to admire an immense canyon with cliffs (ignimbrite walls) several metres high, formed by the extraction for the making of the sillar blocks. At this point we will tell you the history of sillar, how it is made and the use it has always been given. In this quarry you can admire a mega-carving of the Church of the Compañía de Jesús made by the quarrymen themselves; likewise we will be able to admire and take photographs with the various carved figures of the bear, lion, horse, heart and many more. We can also visit one of the quarrymen so they can explain how their daily work is done and let us experience cutting one of their stone blocks ourselves.

Next we will move on to the Culebrillas Gorge, which is 30 minutes away from Añashuayco. On arriving at this point we will take a walk of approximately 20 minutes inside the small canyon that was formed by the passage of water, which has walls of 15 to 20 metres; as we go deeper into it, the walls of the little canyon increase in height. At the end of the walk we will be able to observe petroglyphs made by the Wari culture more than a thousand years ago. Before returning to the city we will observe the Apachetas, which are formations of stones placed one on top of another that are a symbol of gratitude towards nature and also an attraction for good luck, causing a mystical sensation.

12:30 midday or 05:30 p.m. - We will begin the return journey to the city of Arequipa.

We will arrive at the centre of Arequipa and drop you off in the historic centre of our city.

DAY 02: COLCA CANYON FULL DAY. 03:00 to 03:30 a.m. – Pick-up of passengers from the various hotels (provided they are close to the historic centre of Arequipa), to begin the journey via Yura; the trip will go directly towards the Cruz del Cóndor (approx. 5 hours), stopping only for breakfast. 08:30 a.m. approximately – We will arrive at the Cruz del Cóndor, from where we can admire one of the deepest canyons in the world and where the condor sanctuary is located. On the way back we will stop at the villages of Pinchollo, Maca and Yanque, which have beautiful colonial churches; as well as at the viewpoints of Antahuilque and Choquetico from where we can observe the pre-Inca tombs and models and the beautiful Colca landscape with its impressive terracing. Visit to the hot springs (entrance 15.00 soles per person) 12:00 noon approx. – Lunch in Chivay (not included) and return once again to our city of Arequipa. 13:30 p.m. – On the way back we will stop at the Volcanoes Viewpoint (highest point 4,910 m.a.s.l.), at the Tocra wetlands where a diversity of wild birds, herds of alpacas and llamas can be seen; in the Cañahuas pampa we will observe small herds of vicuñas (part of the Aguada Blanca and Salinas National Reserve), the beautiful South American camelid that possesses one of the finest fibres in the world. 17:00 p.m. approx. – Arrival in Arequipa, and that is the end of all our services.
